Happy Weekend everyone,

We’re back with another interesting edition of Halfway to Happy Hour. If anyone knows anything about me, I’m a fan of trash food (and it shows in my physique). One trash food that has always interested me is gas station cuisine. Something to know about rural areas is that the gas station is the lifeblood of its existence. Oftentimes it's more like a gas station/general store/liquor store/fast food restaurant. And for many of the local workers it provides needed nourishment to get to the end of the work day. With that in mind, it’s my goal to sample and rate as many gas station foods as possible, and today we’re at Circle K to try their Jumbo Wings of Fire.

Outside looking in: not great. Packaging leaves a lot to be desired. I like the little window so you can at least see what you’re getting yourself into but the condensation indicates it’s not going to be super crispy. But you’re getting a pack of gas station wings so you can’t expect too much.

First glance: encouraging. After opening the package I’m feeling a little better about these. I love the look of the darker crispy bits on every wing. Pretty good size wings too. They are labeled as “jumbo” and while I’ve seen bigger wings these certainly aren’t small. Smell was good, and the package did indeed have 5 wings in it. Things are looking up.

First bite: above average. Outside has some decent crisp and the meat is pretty tender. Wing has a good bite to it and isn't just completely falling apart. One knock is the flavor. While it’s a fine wing - it is nowhere near deserving of “wing of fire.” A very slight heat but barely a step above a naked wing. I don’t hate the flavor by any means but Circle K should really rethink the label on this one.

Final verdict: decent. Not the best wings I’ve ever had but momma didn’t raise no quitter and I had to pick them clean. It’s an offering to wing gods and means my next wings are going to be absolutely incredible (sounds stupid even typing that but I’m putting good wing vibes out into the universe). Overall, not a bad wing. For a gas station wing I would say pretty decent. I think if it was labeled differently I would score higher, but I gotta go off the information provided. Worthy of a try and I can see a group of construction guys cleaning Circle K out of these bad boys.

Final score. 6.7.

See you soon,

Slim
